Building Transition UpdatesIn 2013, the congregation entered into discussion about the possible sale of the Ranchlands facility through an intentional congregational renewal process. In 2016, the Ranchlands building was sold to the Muslim Association of Canada, and the Calgary congregation relocated to Lion's Village at 2528 Bowness Rd. NW as a temporary location.
A Facility Planning Team has been established to help facilitate this transition, and the congregation has entered into an acquisition process as it seeks to relocate to a new space. This purpose of this page is twofold:

The realtors have been very proactive with their searches and have already spoken with members of the Property Team several times. Thanks to the diligence of our architects in Step 3, we have a clear wish list for our realtors to work from. This list reflects your input on what you'd like in a facility, so rest assured your voice continues to be at the table.
Next week, the realtors and several members of the Property Team will meet to finalize the contract and begin site visits. Please continue to hold those tasked with the building transition in your thoughts and prayers. Questions? Contact Parker Johnson at [email protected].

On Saturday, December 9, 2017, the Calgary congregation met to review the general model that was put together by our architect, Robert Pashuk Architecture (RPA). Jeffrey Riedl was there to represent the firm. Canada West Mission Centre President, Steve Thompson, also made the trip from Edmonton to participate. The general model that was presented by RPA is the direct result of the congregation's wishes. (This information was captured in the Building Transition Survey that took place in December 2016.) The Property Team met on several occasions with the firm to ensure the congregation's wishes were reflected in the overall layout and design that was presented, and those in attendance on Saturday seemed to be energized by the visual representation of their feedback. Click the link below to view/print RPA's presentation:
After the presentation, attendees had the opportunity to directly engage the architect as well as Parker Johnson and other congregational leaders in a Q&A discussion. Much conversation revolved around details such as spatial needs, acoustics, curb appeal, handicap accessibility, location, etc. Many wonderful ideas were contributed by those in attendance...thank you! With the December 9 meeting behind us, we have now progressed to (Phase I) Step 4: Engage Realtor. We will again be partnering with Royal LePage Solutions' Julie Stefan and Gary Yip, the same team that so greatly assisted us with the sale of our beloved Ranchlands facility. As we move ahead with the acquisition of a new home for our congregation, it is imperative that we strategically partner with those who best understand our needs and wants: our architect and realtors are certainly those people! I've updated the process map below to indicate our progress in the planning phase. Questions? Contact Parker Johnson at [email protected]. Step 3; Property Team Meets with Robert Pashuk Architecture to Discuss Facility Needs Assessment11/24/2017 On Friday, November 24, 2017, the Property Team met with Robert Pashuk Architecture (RPA) to review the Facility Needs Assessment that was provided to us by the firm. This was done ahead of the upcoming Saturday, December 9, 2017 Building Transition Business Meeting to be held at Lions Village in our usual meeting place.
The purpose of the November 24 meeting was to review the document in question in order to ensure all parties understood the mandate provided to us by the congregation. This was a very successful meeting, and we are excited for you to meet the firm at our upcoming meeting when they present their conceptual design to us. I've included this document on the right under "Important Information and Documents" for your convenience. Questions? Contact Parker Johnson at [email protected]. Saturday, Dec. 9 |

In September 2017, the Property team provided the architectural firm with the results of the congregational needs analysis, and the firm subsequently provided us with a program matrix outlining the recommended square footage, parking and design requirements, etc. in October 2017.
On Monday, October 30, 2017, the Property Team met to discuss our formal recommendations to the architect regarding the program matrix we'd received. This information was returned to the firm today, November 1, 2017, to be considered in the preliminary conceptual model in the coming weeks.
This is a major step forward in the process for the congregation. Once we receive the preliminary conceptual model, we will present this back to the congregation for input. This model will give us a concrete example of the type of space we'd like to secure that can be provided to the realtors.
As more details become available, we will share those with you. On behalf of the Property Team, thank you for entrusting us with this task. We'd ask for your continued prayers and support as we move forward with the process.

As of Monday, September 25, 2017, the Property Team has transitioned from the completion of Step 2: Engage Architect to the beginning stages of Step 3: Review Models following our first meeting with the architects. The architects are in the process of reviewing the results of our original needs analysis (feel free to refresh your memory by watching the video on the right side of your screen) and within roughly four weeks we should have conceptual designs that visually represents our needs analysis results.
What is the purpose of this conceptual design?
The Property Team believes it is important to put together conceptual designs barring any spatial constraints that might present themselves during the property search. In other words, the architects will take the results of our needs analysis and put together a design that directly represents the wishes of the congregation without a specific space in mind.
How can we have a design without a space in mind?
The purpose of conceptual designs without spatial constraints provides transparency and cohesion across the board. Designs will be presented to the congregation prior to the property search in order to ensure that all members are aware - and in approval of - potential design elements that could ultimately end up in the final design.
Then what?
With a conceptual design in-hand, the Property Team will then work with the architects and realtors to put together a wish-list prior to the property search. This will help us to eliminate properties that don't meet our minimum requirements prior to spending time touring.

In preparation for our new home, the Property Team has developed a more comprehensive set of steps for the congregation to better understand the process in its entirety. While the eight steps that were originally distributed to the congregation are still being utilized, the ten additional steps added below provide more specific tasks for accountability purposes. With this in mind, and in the spirit of transparency, the Property Team has broken out the following 18 steps into three focused phases: SPACE PLANNING, CONSTRUCTION, AND COMMISSIONING
